Doing yoga in steamy hot temperatures has quite a few health benefits. Apart from warming up your muscles to enable deeper postures, it also helps you burn more calories, quicker. It also helps detoxify your muscles, organs and glands. The hot yoga trend is catching on like wild fire, and if you want to join the bandwagon, you need to know to prep for a session to yield maximum benefits.

  • Hydrate well much before the class starts. It is absolutely essential that you don’t wait till you are thirsty in the middle of a session to take sips. Drink up at least an hour before you start the class. Of course carry a bottle of water with you to the class, for mid-session hydration.
  • If the heat in the class really gets you, have water mixed with electrolytes before and after the class. The sodium and potassium loss from the body due to sweat get replenished with electrolytes. You can either have an over the counter electrolyte powder, or have electrolyte rich natural coconut water or watermelon juice.
  • Ensure you don’t eat a heavy meal before a class as it might slow you down and cause you to drain faster because of an overworking digestive system while you are exercising.

That’s that. Now go, sweat it out!
